Dave Jackson [00:00:00]:
If you wanna get on my bad side, it's very easy. Just lie to me. And you may not realize it, but you might be lying to your audience because you're using AI. Welcome

Dave Jackson [00:00:38]:
Hey. Today's episode was inspired by the one and only Elsie Escobar, friend of mine who works at Libsyn, and she talked about this on the feed. And I was like, I gotta bring this over to you so you can hear this. So thanks, Elsie. There are so many AI tools out there. A, of course, for artificial intelligence and I use I've seen tools like swell dotai. There is CapShow. There's Castmagic, PodSqueeze.

Dave Jackson [00:01:07]:
We could go on for an hour naming these, and they're pretty handy. You upload your audio. It transcribes it, and then it will do things like, here are 10 potential titles for your show, and here's a summary, and here's this, and here's that. They're they're really handy. I always say anytime anytime you use AI, there must, underline in bold, must be a human at the end of that process. Never ever have AI write something and you simply copy and paste it. Case in point, there was a blog post that said there was a problem finding podcasting. There was a discovery problem, to be more specific, with podcasting since the nineties.

Dave Jackson [00:01:50]:
And I was like, yeah. There that would be a problem because podcasting wasn't invented until the early 2000, around 2002, 2004, depending on who you talk to. And so that's the problem is we're giving AI it should be assisted intelligence. And what people are doing is they're using these AI tools, and they are just copying and pasting a title. And here's the thing. Think of your title of your episode as a promise. So think of it this way. I live in Akron, Ohio.

Dave Jackson [00:02:26]:
There is a great little theater in downtown Akron, from Goodyear, creatively named the Goodyear Theater. And on Friday, July 12th, Brad Williams, who's a comedian, is coming. Now Brad is hilarious. I'll probably go to that show. And it says with special guest, JB Ball. So picture me going to that show at 7 o'clock, and JB Ball comes out. And he's funny. I'm like, great.

Dave Jackson [00:02:52]:
And then there's no Brad Williams. I don't know. They bring somebody else out. You know, like, but wait a minute. On the bill, it said Brad Williams. And they're like, no. No. Here's another comedian.

Dave Jackson [00:03:01]:
Here's another one. Here's another one. You're like, well, yeah. But I paid money for Brad Williams, and I realized we're not paying money for a podcast, but we are paying for it with our time. And if your title doesn't accurately say what's in the episode, you are lying to your audience. So if it's something like how much podcasters can make and you never mention numbers, that's a lie. If it's more accurately, here are 7 ways podcasters can make money with a podcasting. Okay.

Dave Jackson [00:03:35]:
If that's what you talked about. But if you specifically said something like, hey, in this show, we're going to talk about this topic, and then you don't, you're lying to your audience. And what I'm starting to see is people are generating traffic to their podcast. They are getting people to come over and click play. But the problem is if you're lying to your audience, this first person shows up and looks like, hey. They're gonna talk about topic a. And then you never get to it. They're like, well, I'm not gonna listen to this anymore.

Dave Jackson [00:04:09]:
You lied to me. And the other thing I would say, and if you're a regular listener of the show, you know what I'm gonna say here. Get to that topic as soon as possible. You don't see the news go, hey. Tonight, our top story does swallowing saliva in small amounts over a long period of time kill you. But first, look at this water skiing squirrel. Look at him go. No.

Dave Jackson [00:04:33]:
They go to the top story. And that's my thing, is get to that content as soon as possible. You'll notice today, I don't even introduce myself. I used to say, hey, welcome to the show. I'm Dave Jackson from The School of Podcasting, and then get to the topic because my announcer just said, here's Dave Jackson. And at the end, I'm gonna tell you about the school of podcasting. So we don't need to do as soon as you can get to that content, do it. Have you ever had anybody in your audience go, you know, I like your show, but, man, you just get to the content as quickly as possible.

Dave Jackson [00:05:09]:
I I want a little can you tell me about your cat or maybe some French toast recipes? What's your mom up to? No. They didn't tune in for that. Get to the content as quickly as possible. And when we're talking about titles, this is one thing. Explain what is the benefit of listening to this episode. Who doesn't wanna benefit? So if you say, hey. Today, I interviewed Steve Stewart. Steve Stewart is making a living editing podcasting with free software.

Dave Jackson [00:05:42]:
Okay. Who wouldn't wanna hear that? Wait. He's using free software and making a living doing that? Yeah. He is. People, I wanna do that. I wanna do that. That's the benefit. Where if it's just like episode 16, Steve Stewart.

Dave Jackson [00:05:58]:
Well, a, sorry, Steve. Not everybody knows who Steve is. And episode 16 doesn't make me wanna click. So make your episode title the benefit of the episode. And if you're having a hard time finding a benefit, that's a giant red flag. Why should people listen to this episode? Yeah. Well, when you figure that out, make that part of the title, which then makes it the promise to the audience that they're then going to receive. And be careful using AI.

Dave Jackson [00:06:30]:
I kinda like AI, but I also see it's like a really sharp knife. If you're cutting, I don't know, steak or something, fish, whatever you're you're cutting, it's great to have a really sharp knife. However, you can also, when used improperly, lop off a finger. And when you lie to your audience, whether it's on purpose or not, I look. I'm not calling you a liar. Why would you lie? That's not nice. We don't like to be lying. We we tend to operate on that do unto others thing that people talk about.

Dave Jackson [00:07:02]:
But sometimes we didn't realize it that, hey, AI spit out this thing. We copied. We pasted it. And then it dawned on us later. And I didn't really give that detail that the robot spit out for us. So be careful with that. Now we use AI tools because we wanna speed things up. It does speed things up at times.
