Are you taking advantage of all of your opportunities?
This newsletter contains affiliate links. Not all of them, but some of them. I earn a small commission, and it doesn’t cost you anything. I call that a win-win.
One Advantage of Getting Older
One advantage of getting older is you remember when things were harder. For example:
When I was a small child television was in black and white. We had to go to Granpda’s house to see a color TV.
You use to have to go to someone’s house or a payphone to make a call. You also had to memorize people’s phone numbers.
You use to have to be able to see a cab and pray they can see you to hopefully flag them down. Now you order a driver via an app (and then do the opposite of what Mom taught you and get into a car with a stranger).
As a musician, it took a miracle to get your CD sold in a local “record store.” Now you have the ability to sell your music (for pennies) across the world.
Podcasting Is GLOBAL
You have sooooo many ways to connect with people:
Social media
Newsletters
Podcasts
Blogs
YouTube
Podcast Guesting
It Only Fits 82% of the Time
But often we don’t have “the right fit” or some other reason to NOT do something. You can always find a reason to NOT do something. So you said no to trying something new. What did you do instead? Watch another rerun of friends? Did that help extend your reach? Grow your network? Increase your skills as an interviewee?
While I wouldn’t want to operate this way all the time, but what if your life depended on your audience growing. Some dastardly person has said, “If you don’t grow your downloads by at least two by next week, you will die at 2 PM.” I bet you’d start promoting on social with a little more thought. You might be guesting on shows that was only an 82% fit.
We Can Always Learn and Do Better
So I’m poking around my YouTube Channel, and what do you know, there are a bunch of comments sitting here waiting for me to interact with my audience. It’s like a big giant sign blinking, “AUDIENCE CONNECTION - CLICK HERE” and yet I had been ignoring them.
Am I taking full advantage of my YouTube opportunity. So I need to make sure that any email alerting me of a new comment isn’t blocked by a Gmail filter, and every time I add a new video, I need to check for new comments.
It Only Takes Five Seconds
Here is an action item that is sooooo easy, and can truly help. On your next video on YouTube, be the first to comment. In that comment add a link to your call to action, and the pin the comment.
If you’re like me you will go, “Oh man, I should’ve been doing this the whole time.”
Podcast not growing as fast as you want? I’ve repackaged the “Podcast Hot Seat" (including a price change) and made it more ala cart. We all miss our own mistakes because we are too close to the content. Pull your car into the podcast garage, and let me take a peak at it. See www.fixmypodcast.com
I’ve had two people sign up and they loved the service. Are you next?

Tella Just Killed My Camtasia Subscription
I’ve always kept my Camtasia subscription, I’ve been using Tella to make (and host) my videos for the School of Podcasting. Think of it like Loom on steroids. But, Tella didn’t have lower thirds. Now they do. They also let you add B Roll, Erase yuor background and a whole lot more.
See More. If you decide to buy Tella, please consider using my affiliate link. It doesn’t cost you anymore, and I earn a small commission.
Great for Rush Fans and Storytellers
A documentary about Neil Peart the drummer of Rush has hit YouTube. I was always more amazed at the talent of the members of Rush than the music they created (I like my rock hard or funky). If you’re not familiar with Neil or Rush, he’s the guy you “Air drummed” to on the song “Tom Sawyer.”
You always want to start strong and they did. It starts with the two surviving members pour two glasses of wine for themselves, and then a “two fingers tall” glass of whiskey which is what Neil always drank. It’s like grandma’s empty chair at Thanksgiving times 10.
Then they use their music to help tell the story, and they often use clips of interviews with Neil to help tell the story. They brought in Neil’s drumming friends from the bands the Police, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Tool, and more to play songs. So you have nice mix of new, old, video, clips, etc. It’s call Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple
Brad Williams Approaches the Same Subject from a Million Different Directions
I watched the “Starfish Special” from Brad Williams. It’s NSFW (like most comedians) and Brad is a little person. He takes that “little person” topic and uses it over, and over and over. One more thing: he’s hilarious. I actually LOL’d. So if you ever feel like you’ve beat your main topic to death, remember Brad Williams and think of all the ways he’s approached the same subject.
What’s Coming In The Future
The next episode is a “Question of the Month.” Here is the question:
This month we are talking feedback. What is the most constructive piece of feedback you've received, as well as the most destructive feedback you've ever received. If you've never asked for feedback (like a survey) why not? I need your answer by September 25th (that is a hard deadline), and be sure to mention the name of your show, a little bit about it, and your website address so I can link to it in the episode notes.
Just cause you’re a newsletter reader, I’ll give you until September 26th at 1:30 PM ET

I’m off to continue to rearranging my basement doing “Handy” stuff which I’m awful at. Wish me luck!
