Seriously? People Still Say 'New Episode Out'?
How is this still happening?
You ever have one of those moments where you see something so ridiculous you can’t help but roll your eyes? That’s basically the theme of this episode. I’m talking about the world of podcasting and, honestly, it’s kind of wild. It’s 2026, and people are still posting “New episode out! (and that's it)” on social media like that’s some kind of marketing strategy. Seriously?
Yes, It's Better Than Nothing...
In this episode, I talk about why podcasters need to stop doing the bare minimum when promoting their shows. If you’re going to post on social media, at least make it interesting. Lead with a question. Share a bold statement. Give people a reason to stop scrolling and pay attention. Don’t just announce your existence, do something to spark curiosity.
Use a Hook
I also dig into the importance of using hooks when sharing episodes. In today’s world of endless content, you need something that grabs attention immediately. Whether it’s a thought-provoking question, a surprising opinion, or a compelling claim, the goal is to invite people into a conversation, not just tell them your episode exists.
There is No Excuse for "New Episode Out"
And honestly, with all the AI tools available now, there’s really no excuse for lazy promotional posts anymore. AI can help you come up with stronger captions, better hooks, and more engaging content in seconds. If your entire strategy is still “new episode out,” it might be time to rethink things.
Throughout the episode, I share practical tips on how to create social posts that actually connect with your audience and make people want to listen. I also invite listeners to join the School of Podcasting community, where we do listener parties, personal coaching, and help podcasters grow their shows in smarter ways.
If you’re serious about podcasting and want your marketing to stand out, this episode is your reminder to stop being basic and start being intentional. Podcast promotion doesn’t have to be boring — and honestly, it shouldn’t be.

I saw this and I was like, seriously, in 2026, people are still doing this? That. That's insane. What are they doing? They go to social. So whatever you want to use, Facebook, Twitter, X Blue sky, whatever. And the thing they are using to get me to go listen to their episode is the phrase new episode out. Yeah, that's it. Just new episode out and a link that is the epitome of the least amount you can do. And so. Okay, Dave, well, what do you want to do?Lead with the most interesting claim or takeaway from the episode. And if there is no takeaway, if there is no benefit, why are you publishing it? Not the fact that it exists? Hey look, I made something. You could turn the episode into a question asking something debate worthy, you know, something go out and slightly, you know, poke the bear of your audience. So here are just some quick examples. Something like most people get whatever the topic. So in this case it might be most people get posting to social wrong because. And then whatever the reason they do it, I don't know, they have zero creativity. In this episode, we break down how to post on social or how to do it right or how to get more clicks or whatever the benefit, you know, would you rather do option A or option B? That would be again, kind of a question. We talked about this exact trade off in the latest episode and then have a link. You know, the biggest mistake I see with whatever the topic is is and then what's the biggest mistake? Here's the fix we discussed. Then put the link. It's a hook. Another one might be. If you only take one thing away from this episode, make it this. And then the takeaway. A quick tip from the men and women over at Captivate said, write the post as if the episode did not exist yet.Would the idea still stand on its own as something worth reading, watching or debating? In other words, are you delivering value in the post? If not, well, then the post needs a sharper hook. And then the people over at Headliner said a good shorthand like how do I do this? Is there's a hook, right? That's first and Then the context, and then of course, the last thing is the link. And so in the same way that in the past I've said, please quit saying find me wherever you find your podcasts. Why?Because in many cases you can go to things like Spotify and search for the exact name of your show and it won't show up because their search is not great. So take that out of your vocabulary and please take new episode out out of your vocabulary. When it comes to posting on social, we want to do things intelligently. We want to do things that actually work. And I'm just here to tell you, yes, it's better than nothing, right? It's better than not posting. But if you're gonna post there and it doesn't take a lot to do this, come up with a hook. You can use ChatGPT if you want to, you know, throw the transcript into some sort of AI and say write 10 tweets or write 10 social posts for this. And it's whatever it comes up with. And I'm not a huge fan of letting AI do everything, but anything it comes up with will be better than new episode out.So if you need help with anything with your podcast, really, one of my favorite things we're doing now at the school of podcasting are listener parties. And so you bring an episode and then we announce it and a bunch of us get together and you get to watch us listen to your show because you know when we're supposed to laugh or when we're supposed to cry and you know, you can tell if it's engaging or not. And then we let you know when things are really good and we let you know if we're a little confused on something. So we have all sorts of ways to improve your show along with the courses and the community and of course, one on one coaching with me.For more information, go over to schoolofpodcasting.com, use the coupon code listener when you sign up and realize that comes with a 30 day money back guarantee.
